মহাকর্ষ-ঢেউ অাবিষ্কারে যুক্ত বিজ্ঞানীদের সম্বর্ধনা

কলকাতা, ১৮ জুন ২০১৬: মহাকর্ষ-ঢেউ অাবিষ্কারে কলকাতার যে বিজ্ঞানীরা যুক্ত ছিলেন তাঁদের নাগরিক সম্বর্ধনা দেওয়া হয় পশ্চিমবঙ্গ চ্যাপটারের উদ্যোগে। রাজাবাজার সায়েন্স কলেজের মেঘনাদ সাহা অডিটোরিয়ামে অনুষ্ঠিত এই সভায় সভাপতিত্ব করেন অধ্যাপক ধ্রুবজ্যোতি মুখোপাধ্যায়। সভার শুরুতে সাহা ইনস্টিটিউট অফ নিউক্লিয়ার ফিজিক্সের বিজ্ঞানী ড: অমিত ঘোষ আইনস্টাইনের ব্যাপক আাপেক্ষিকতাবাদ আলোচনা করেন। IISER এর বিজ্ঞানী ড: রাজেশ কুম্বলে নায়েক LIGO পরীক্ষাটি বর্ণনা করেন। তারপর পরীক্ষাটির সঙ্গে প্রত্যক্ষভাবে যুক্ত বিজ্ঞানী ড: রাজেশ কুম্বলে নায়েক এবং অনুরাধা সমাজদারকে মানপত্র দিয়ে সম্বর্ধিত করা হয়। প্রেক্ষাগৃহটি ছাত্র, শিক্ষক, এবং বিজ্ঞান-অনুরাগী মানুষে পরিপূর্ণ ছিল।

Science Colloquium at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata, 23 December 2015

A colloquium was held on 23 December, 2015 at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata under the joint auspices of the Breakthrough Science Society and the Research Fellows Association of the SINP against the atmosphere of communal frenzy, propagation of unscientific beliefs and superstitions, and slashing of fund in science education and research. Professor Dhrubajyoti Mukhopadhyay presided over the programme. Convention in Kolkata on National Science Day demanding anti-black magic bill

On the occasion of National Science day (28 February, 2015), the Breakthrough Science Society West Bengal Chapter organized a March from College Square to the State Yuva Kendra, Moulali, demanding introduction of an anti-black-magic bill in the state. The March demanded that claiming to have supernatural power and cheating people with such claim should be declared as illegal and punishable offence. Advertising such claims through print and electronic media should also be banned. Similarly, branding men/women as witch and accusing somebody of being possessed by ghost, and subjecting them to physical and mental torture should also be declared as punishable offence. Throughout Bengal a mass signature campaign was organized by BSS WB Chapter and around 23000 signatures have been collected. A delegation led by Professor Kartick Ghanta (Acting President of BSS WB Committee) submitted a memorandum to the Governor along with the signatures.

The March culminated at the State Yuva Kendra, Moulali, where a Convention was held with the same demand. Eminent science writers Mr. Asish Lahiri, Dr. Bhavani Prasad Sahoo, Mr. Subrata Gouri (Vice- President, BSS WB Committee) spoke on the occasion. The Convention adopted a resolution with this demand. The speakers appealed to the participants to strengthen this movement and to spread it to each and every corner of the state. Professor Dhrubajyoti Mukherjee presided over the session and urged upon the participants to continue the effort till the bill is passed in the West Bengal Legislative assembly.

21st December: Anti superstition show in Komsomol children workshop at Sonarpur. Conducted by Nirmal Duari.
17th January: Galleleo Science Forum (Nimta) organized a visit to Indian Museum.
18th January: Progressive Science Association organized a science competition at Chetla Park.

Bardhaman District

Science quiz competition was organized by APC Roy Science Society at Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Durgapur. A seminar was organized to build up awareness about Encephalitis. Speaker: Dr. Manas Kumar Goswami and Dr. Subhankar Ghosh.

North 24 Parganas

25th December: Meghnad Saha Science Society organized an Arsenic Detection Camp in drinking water at Duttapukur Nabadhoi High School. 75 water samples were tested from local area. Conducted by: Dr. Tapan Shi, Abhisek Sahu, Apurba Bera, Sujay Pramanik and Asish Samanta.
26th to 28th December: Meghnad Saha Science Society organized 20th Duttapukur Science Exhibition and Science & Cultural Competition. Models, charts, experiments and slide shows were organized in 15 classrooms on different subjects of science. Hundreds of students participated in the exhibitions. During the three days a lot of people came to attend the seminars and the anti-superstitious exhibitions.

South 24 Parganas

15th January: Seminar on ‘Human on the way of Evolution’ was held at South Kathiabad Vidyaniketan on the occasion of golden jubilee ceremony. Speaker: Dr. Tapan Shi.

North Dinajpur

31st August: A science workshop was organized at Raygunje Ramkrishna High School. Anti-superstition show and slide shows on ISRO’s Mars expedition were held. In the concluding session, Dr. Radhakanta Konar discussed on ‘Necessity of science movement today’.
