The only cyclone shelter in the whole region existed atPadmapur village. It saved the lives of about 2000 people. If more such shelters existed, the loss of life would have been minimal. Today it houses the base camp of MSC.

Such decaying bodies are still found all around. This picture was taken on 4th December -- 5 weeks after the disaster -- on the main passageway leading to Ramtara village. Quo vadis, government?
People are now living in such shanties made with coconut leaves. This is the same spot where this lady's house stood. Now there is no trace of whatever was there.

There were houses in these spaces. Now no sign of them. Everything has been washed away leaving plain flat land.

The main source of living of the people here was fishing. Now not a single fishing boat exists. The remains of this boat was hurled 4km inland.
